I bought Navman GPS device last month i update device after purchased just speed camera added nothing else waste of money. On the box write down free maps. Didnot get any product key . Bruce Williams says: November 2, 2014 at 3:23 pm. Cant get it to work. Hey guys, talk to.
Downloaded the latest map update for my Navman MY60T. The map file name is MapData_NTAU1_v1112_5002.iso. Update was succesfull via NavDesk 7.30. However, the file mapshigh.xml did not match the modified date time. Checked folder Navman Maps and it does not matched the content of MapData_NTAU1_v1112_5002.iso.
The file in the ISO under Maps is AU99R0NT1500054S.map while the file in Navman Maps is AU99R0NT1500042A.map. Seems like the map did not update at all. Also, I did a remove map from the GPS unit from NavDesk 7.30 and selected the latest map version 11.12 and clicked on 'Install Maps' but it did nothing. This is frustrating. How do I get the map to update? Anyone had the same problem?
I suspect that the latest map is stuffed up. I updated my MY50T a few days ago, then plugged in my parents' address, to see what it now thought was the best way to get there. But Woollamia has become Numbaa.
A bit of playing around soon showed that anything else in the area (eg; Falls Creek (NSW), Vincentia, Sanctuary Point) has also become Numbaa. I then plugged in a few other places that I'm familiar with, and they're stuffed too. Eg; Coonabarabran has become Napier Lane.
So I rolled mine back to the previous map, and then updated my wife's MY65T earlier today, to see what it would do; same problem, so I'll be rolling it back, too. My daughter has an EZY45. I haven't updated it yet, but I expect the same problem. Hi Colin, It could be that it's the region that is showing (eg: Gladesville shows up as Gladesville, Hunters Hill/Ryde NSW) We tried this on a few test units and 'Woollamia/Falls Creek/Coonabarabran' is coming up, it is not coming up as Numbaa or Napier Lane. I would advise deleting the ISO file from your PC, redownload and load them up again.
If it still persists, can you private message me with specific details of the issue (exact addresses, etc.) and we will try and find a solution for you. Kind Regards, Navman Support. Can you select the v1112_5002.iso file, click open and then install maps at the bottom. If it still does not work, I would advise deleting the map ISO and redownloading it. Tried delete and re-download the file couple of times. After download is complete, it will prompt to install.
It goes through copying files and everything seems okay until I check the 'mapshigh.xml' file. Also, clicking 'Install Maps' does nothing, I mean it doesn't seem to be doing anything, no prompt or confirmation pop up.
I also updated my Navman MY60T with map file MapData_NTAU1_v1112_5002.iso. Like Colin 2905, I am having problems with addresses and POI being reported in wrong locations. The addresses and POI are correctly located on the map, but the description of the location is incorrect in many cases. I checked 15 towns west of Melbourne and in only two cases (Colac Warrnambool) did the reported town match the actual town. POI in Lorne were reported as being in Benwerrin, while addresses in Wye River were reported as being in Petticoat Creek.
In QLD, POI in Cooktown were reported as being in Lakefield. POI in Lakeland were reported as being in Claraville (about 500km away). All that is just the tip of the iceberg as I haven't checked many places I think there is a problem in the way addresses have been parsed for the map database, so post codes or towns are being looked up incorrectly. Let's do an imaginary trip from Canberra to Sydney, plugging in a few places along (or near) the way.
Sutton = Clear Range Bywong = Captains Flat Lake George = Oolong Collector = Oolong Goulburn = Goulburn Marulan = Paddys River (North) Sutton Forrest = Paddys River (North) Berrima = Paddys River (North) Mittagong = Oakdale Yerrinbool = Oakdale Yanderra = Pheasants Nest Pheasants Nest = Pheasants Nest Douglas Park = Razorback Menangle = Cawdor Campbelltown = Campbelltown So only three out of fifteen are correct! Hi melmern, Can you check my maps and click on open on v1112_5002,iso file, if it loads to the next screen and Australia has a GREEN dot on it with a tick, it means it is installed.
If so, and the mapshigh is still the same, it may mean that you have installed the maps before and were not aware of it or there is some software issue internally and the new maps wont install or change the mapshigh file. Can you let me know the modified date on the mapshigh file currently? Kind Regards, Navman Support. Even if the original 'disc' map is installed, (v1012 in my case) clicking on the 'open' tab under loadable maps, on 'anything' newer will give the green dot, and say it's already installed on navman. But after unit synchs, there should be a pop up if navdesk recognises a loadable map newer than already installed. Also i've found that no matter what map that you install, comparing the date of the mapshigh file ( under properties ) only shows a successful flash, not neccessarily the latest map, just that it went through on 'that specific day'. To be sure: if you right click on the mapshigh.xml file on click 'open with' then notepad, the 9th line down will tell you what version has been installed. Eg: mine is 1110_5002 cheers Addy. Hi Colin, Whirlpool and all, Thank you all for your feedback and for alerting us to this. The issue has been resolved and the changes will be present in the next scheduled map update.
I will notify you here when the update is released, but you will also be prompted by NavDesk when it becomes available to download. I would also suggest registering for our 3 years map promotion, if you haven't done so already. You can do this here: as long as your unit was bought from a participating store and was purchased between and. Thank you once again for your feedback and please let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind Regards, Navman Support. I recently upgraded the Maps on my Navman MY65T and have found a problem with the addresses thereon. An example is that I wish to go to 12 May Street Cresent Heads NSW. I select find, address, enter city area CRESCENT HEAD NSW, enter street name MAY ST, then it comes up with MAY ST, CLYBUCCA NSW IN CRESCENT HEAD. Clybucca is some 30klm from Crescent Heads. When I enter the house number and then select explore I find that the GPS is actually taking me to Crescent Heads but is showing the address as May St Clubucca.
I have done this to a few country areas and a similar thing happens. Obviously there is a glitch somewhere in the software and needs to be fixed ASAP. I use my GPS for business purposes daily and I do not want to await the next Map release this is Navman's error and if not fixed by the end of June Garmin or Tom Tom here I come.
Obviously there is a glitch somewhere in the software and needs to be fixed ASAP. I use my GPS for business purposes daily and I do not want to await the next Map release this is Navman's error and if not fixed by the end of June Going on my update history, i got first update in either December 2011 or Jan 2012 ( can't remember exactly ), then the next late April 2012, so on the theory of 4 updates per year, Late July would be a close estimate for next map update. Not quite end of June but. Rolling back to previous map until then is the only option. Goodluck Addy.
Hi all, I have a statement here in relation to this issue: 'Our map supplier, Navteq, as part of their ongoing commitment to continually improve and evolve the map database recently made some adjustments to the Town City Boundaries of many rural and regional townships. A consequence of this change is that a number of rural towns and cities have had their Centre of town points incorrectly positioned. In some cases this may cause an inaccurate result when searching for an Area/ City using the recently released Autumn edition map. Normal Address Searches should not be impacted by this issue. This issue is being resolved and we regret any impact that this may have caused.
A new Winter map update will be release to rectify this issue and will be available in August 2012. Any customer who has purchased the Autumn Map will receive the new Winter release Free of Charge.' Once again, we regret any inconvenience that this has caused and please let me know if you have any other questions in relation to the next map update. Kind Regards, Navman Support.
If you cannot release the fixed update until August at least make a non-faulty update available on your website. The problem is, I don't think there is a 'non-faulty update'. The latest Navteq data drop is, judging from Navman Support's post, broken (with regard to the location of 'rural and regional townships', whatever that corresponds to). Until Navteq fixes the issue and Navman gets the next data drop, they don't have anything to make available.
The only thing they could do is make the older maps available. Using my google-fu, it looks like there are a number of previous maps still downloadable: Might be some others, these are just the ones that are similar in name to the current one.
The main question would be whether NavDesk would let you put any of these on your device or not. Someone with something more recent than my old MY500XT feel like giving it a go? Of course, the downside with this is that the road data is older. Personally, between more up-to-date road data and correct centre-of-city information, I'd take the newer road data since I usually have an exact address I'm going to:).
The current one. The main question would be whether NavDesk would let you put any of these on your device or not. You can roll back as early as you like. I have wasted too many hours flashing back and forth between maps trying to find out why v1112 is locked on my MY75T, and don't get me started on the missing 4wd icon ( long story ).
All you have to do is delete the map off the unit, and ignore the auto update pop up, then click on the version in your 'my maps' folder that you want to install. I'm running v1110_5002 ( isn't v1112 the faulty one anyway?) I have to agree with you though, i would prefer newer road data over inaccurate suburb listings.
Nearly ended up in Warrick trying to find Queensland Raceway lol. Not receiving a prompt for the map udpate? I purchased the last map update in June for my Platinum S150 and have been told recently by Navman email support that the problem I have with missing Speed Camera info (that are old cameras and have dropped off) would be fixed for free with the next map update. I tried on the weekend and it did not update any maps at all. Do I have to wait for an email from someone? My wife's MY85XLT (that is a much better unit) did update both the NavDesk software and also the full maps over the weekend. The speed cameras that are missing on my Navman still showed on the MY85XLT so there is a data mismatch somewhere.
I have a MY75T. I got an email today telling me that there is an up date, so I clicked on the link and it took me to this page. () Half way down the page it mentions 'The new Spring 2011 maps will now be installed on your unit' New Spring 2011!!!! It is almost Spring 2012!!! So anyway, I installed the latest Navdesk 7.50 and it updated the Maps on the MY75T. The file it downloaded is MapData_NTAU1_v1110_5002.iso is this the correct file? Because when you go to the NavMan Maps Site you can download a file for the MY75T that is named MapData_NTAU1_v1203_5003.iso but I do not know how to install this because it's not visible to NavDesk.
Why is this process so confusing and so poorly documented. I just want to know which file I should have and how I can tell I have the latest update. Is there a landmark I can check on the Maps? Regards Warren. So anyway, I installed the latest Navdesk 7.50 and it updated the Maps on the MY75T. The file it downloaded is MapData_NTAU1_v1110_5002.iso is this the correct file? Haha that's two updates ago.
Gadugi Font License on this page. It came out in about march i believe. Did you d/l the new v1203? And if so it must be put in the correct map folder you initially created when installing navdesk. You can check folder by opening navdesk, click on my navman tab and then on options, then click on the my maps tab, and it will show your map folder location. Keep me posted. Dont want to waste almost gig of download limit if not neccessary.
Ps where did u find the v1203? I went to navan site and clicked on m apping and selected my75t and no aussie maps came up. Addy, Go to and scroll down to the MY75T map update link. I've been having major issues with the standard 'update your map' email and instructions with no maps coming up for updating in Navdesk, which has been annoying the hell out of me (have not been able to install/downloand the last 2 updates).
I found the above link and have downloaded the latest file (being v12.03 I think). But for some reason whilst I can 'see' the file in Navdesk and is already pre-selected (ticked), I cannot get Navdesk to install the map. I am thinking that maybe I have to remove the existing map but am hesitant to do so in case I los everything and cannot recover it. For any of these MY-Series owners () that aren't receiving the prompt, try this: finally a BT fix. I was ready to power up my old samsung jet so i could use bt. As my HTC Inc S randomly wouldn't connect. I will install now;) Open up navDesk, Go to My Navman Options My Maps Click on 'Change' and change the map location to another one.
Close Navdesk and reopen again. Please let me know if you experience any problems.
This just pops up d/l for v1110. Already have that ( since 2 updates ago ) Addy. Addy, Thanks for the offer for maps, but I already have copies all of previous maps I managed to download including a backup of the unit I took before attempting this update. Unfortunately, removing the existing map did not work for me. When I tried to install the new map recently downloaded it was 'locked' and required a map key.
So I have now restored my last backup so that at least I am no worse off than before I started. Nonetheless, it is very frustrating that the map update procedure does not work and there is no mention of this on the Navman website.
One other issue I have just noticed is the unit seems to have 'lost' the 4WD Maps feature and icon not sure why or when this happened. I have only used this a few times, but one of the reasons for purchasing this unit was so that I could use this feature to get off the beaten track from time to time.
My only alternative now is to call Navman Support but this is time consuming and difficult when I am supposed to be working during businss hours. Whilst I believe that overall the MY75T is a great unit, it is very disappointing to have such poor map upgrade functionality and support from a company which seems to have a very large share of the GPS market. One other issue I have just noticed is the unit seems to have 'lost' the 4WD Maps feature and icon not sure why or when this happened. I have only used this a few times, but one of the reasons for purchasing this unit was so that I could use this feature to get off the beaten track from time to time.
Yes that is a known issue, the original fix was time consuming and mind numbing. But since the navdesk 7.50 update it is a 'little' quicker 1) format unit ( use windows not navdesk, and delet everything but the auto run.exe file.
2) reset unit using top button ( might take a few goes to go into usb mode ) and connect to pc 3) a pop up box will come up asking to reinstall software _ ok 4) recover keys 5) install map 6) insert navdesk disc and re run navdesk 7) reinstall languages from disc Addy. I received an email from Navman Tech support (Ferman) with a procedure to follow today to install MapData_NTAU1_v1203_5003.iso which he confirmed is Winter 2012 for the MY75T. However, I followed the procedure outlined but when it came to the point of selecting the Maps (above) they had a little yellow Padlock shown in the locked position. When I clicked it, it said enter a Product Key, which I dont have. So therefore I am now back on v1110_5002 again. I have confidence that this will get sorted. Fingers crossed.
Hi all, I can confirm that the latest map version is v1203. No MY75T customers should have to purchase this map, it should update automatically for you. Warren, have you tried my suggestion from earlier? Open up navDesk, Go to My Navman Options My Maps Click on 'Change' and change the map location to another one.
Close Navdesk and reopen again. You should then be prompted to install the map update. If you receive several options, select v1203. Let me know how it goes. Kind Regards, Navman Support. Well, my situation has been similar to others here however Navman telephone support has now advised that I will have to return my MY75T under an RMA to have the new map(s) loaded. The tech I spoke with this morning (after many and various attempts, all of which have been covered off in the above posts) has concluded that Navdesk is unable to communicate with the Navman server and is consequently not alllowing the latest data file to be recognised by Navdesk and hence why it is showing as 'locked' and requiring an unlock key.
He mentioned that this may be caused by being behind a firewall and recommended turning it off which is not possible in my case as I am currently behind a corporate firewall. However, I have already attempted this from my home computer with no success. I had a similar issue about a year ago when I purchased maps for Europe on-line and ended up having to send my unit to Navaman, along with a micro SD card, just so I could get the maps installed. The thing that is now most concerning is that because I have attempted to do this on a number of computers, Navdesk is now displaying the message: 'Sorry, your map data can no longer be synchronised or backed up. The number of computers you are connected to has exceeded the limit.' Which means I can't even do a back-up now before I send it to Navman and hence run the risk of losing saved locations, etc.
This is extremely frustrating and now going to cost me time and money in sending my unit to Navman to do something which should be quite straight-forward and simple. When will Navman get this fixed??? I received an email for my Navman MY55T this morning. Bit apprehensive about installing it. Has anyone got it to work? I got an email direct from Navman support yesterday which was more explanatory than the standard mass email they sent out.
However, it unfortunately was not successful and hence why I had to call them again this morning. If the tech I spoke with this morning is correct about being behind a firewall, then maybe your upgrade will work if you can turn off the Windows firewall and any other software/hardware firewall you are running.but I wouldn't count on it. Asking people to turn off firewalls and antivirus is just unprofessional and shows their software must be questionable at the very least.
What they are saying to people is turn it off, but not to turn it on again when you are finished, plus most non tech savvy people wouldnt know how to do this anyway. Navman need to get their act together and sort this out. I purchased a MY75T because it came with 2 years free map updates, of which I have so far received only 1 update, and this next one has some serious issues.
In a few months time the 2 years will be up and they will be wanting to charge us for updates again. Not very ethical if you ask me, they should extend the free map updates to 3 years for all the grief they have caused.
Warren, have you tried my suggestion from earlier? Open up navDesk, Go to My Navman Options My Maps Click on 'Change' and change the map location to another one. Close Navdesk and reopen again.
You should then be prompted to install the map update. If you receive several options, select v1203.
I tried that yesterday and already replied with screenshots. I tried it again just now What it does is prompt that a new update is available, but the update it wants me to download is V11.1050 MapData_NTAU1_v1110_5002.iso It never asks me to download v1203. Even tried load'*',8,1 and that didn't work, it just asked me to press play on tape. Haha We've come a long way since the Commodore 64 Addy lol I'm fairly sure everyone will be having this problem. I look forward to hearing the outcome of your RDP with Navman tonight. I have tried it on 3 different computers here at home this afternoon.
2 running XP and 1 running Vista, no firewall. Same problem. It always wants to auto update with the v1110_5002 file, it never prompts to download the v1203 file and if I try to get it to use the v1203_5003 file (that I downloaded) it has the padlock and wants a Product Key. I think I'm up to about 10 hours of stuffing around with this now. I think the MySeries came out in Oct 2010, (I got mine in Jan 2011) so none are two years old yet. Likewise, bought mine in November 2010 and so far only had 2 successful updates and no further success updating for the last 2 updates. I agree with your earlier suggestion that Navman should extend the free map update service for a further 1 year to compensate all customers whom have bought these units (but it should be extended from when they get this issue fixed.) Has anyone else actually called the technical support number and had any better results?
I would be interested to hear before I go packaging up my unit and sending it back under an RMA. Received an email from Navman with these instructions:- Please follow the steps below to install the map successfully. If you havent installed the NavDesk yet, insert the original DVD that came with the device to a computer with a DVD drive and an operating system of Window XP, Vista, or 7. Click Install the NavDesk and follow the prompt.
However, if the NavDesk is already installed on your computer, open the application and connect your device to the computer using the Mini USB cable. Download the Service Pack file on the following link and run it: This should install NavDesk Version 7.30 on your computer. (if the NavDesk already has this version, theres no need to do this. Please proceed to step 3) Download the Map Data file on the following link and save it under My Documents/My Maps for Windows XP and Documents/My Maps in Windows Vista and 7: Please make sure that the folder contains this map data file only.
This is a directory on your computer and not in the Navman GPS. Once done with the download, connect the device to the computer, switch it on and check if it gets the computer connection screen. Open NavDesk. The program should have an icon on your desktop.
Go to Unlock Features. Enter the product key that was given to you via e-mail, all in upper case. Please be reminded that we do not use the number 1 on the code. If you see one, change it to a letter I. Click on Continue. Finish the process and then go to My Maps. On the far right (loadable maps section) you should see MapData underneath DVD.
Click on open. Wait for the screen to load and should show Navman Internal and Map Source. Under Navman internal, remove the AU map first by putting a tick and click on Remove map. Finish the process and then select AU on Map Source and select Install map.
Click on Transfer Now. Finish the process and follow the prompts. A message will appear and tell you that you will need to recover your subscriptions. Select My Subscriptions and click on Recover Subscriptions. Finish the process and disconnect the Navman device from the computer afterwards.

The instructions you have received are similar to what I received from tech support, but the differences I can see are (I think) because you have an MY55T and I have an MY75T. However, an important step is to ensure that you perform a back up of your unit before you attempt to follow the upgrade instructions, which surprisingly is not mentioned. One distinct difference I have noticed is that you are required to enter an Unlock Code which I am not again I presume this is because of the different model. Good luck with it and hope that it works for you.unlike those of us who are battling with the MY75T.
Didnt hear back from Addyhash, maybe they crashed his computer? Lol ' haha nice 1.
No 'blue screen of death' here lol. Mr Support was held up in a meeting and will call me again at 7pm tonight. One interesting point he raised when he rang at 10pm was to make a new destination folder for maps that has never been used before, as even if you erase any old maps from the current my maps folder, a 'footprint' so to speak is left behind. Apparently this can confuse the update synch.
By then I had left so I could not try this. Although i'm pretty sure i did this back in May when v1112 would not pop up. Keep you posted Addy. By then I had left so I could not try this. Although i'm pretty sure i did this back in May when v1112 would not pop up. I tried several different Map destinations and every time I changed it, it just wanted to download v1110_5002 again. I have never seen a v1112 either, so thats 2 updates I have missed out on. Looks like I might be sending my unit back to Navman for the update. It has to be a subscription related issue, or when navdesk synchs it's getting the date stamp wrong. Might sift through the maps high file and find that command line and change it.
Watch me brick my navman lol. Or change the date on my pc to. Lets say mid 2013 ( that is 18 months into my 2 years so I should be ok ). And see what happens.
Food for thought I refuse to believe i should be inconvenienced by having to send unit back, that's just wrong. Edit: i wonder if there is enough ooomph in the processor to handle a full format and port a version of android onto it and buy a lifetime subscription to google maps offline hahaha Addy. Hi Warren and drecons, I believe you are already in contact with our support team, but if either of you aren't, private message me your phone number and email address and I'll have one of our team contact you to help troubleshoot this issue.
Kind Regards, Navman Support Thanks for the offer, but is it too late for me now.I have sent my unit off under an RMA this morning.and with all due respect, I really cannot be bothered mucking around any longer via telephone and email support as I have wasted so much time on this already. It is covered under warranty and I expect that Navman support should fix it for me. My only hope is that at some stage (soon) Navman rectify whatever the issue is with downloading and installing map updates so that this is not an ongoing issue. Hi Warren and drecons, I believe you are already in contact with our support team, but if either of you aren't, private message me your phone number and email address and I'll have one of our team contact you to help troubleshoot this issue. I will send you my phone number, I want to talk to you about this.
I have sent your team numerous messages asking questions and they dont answer the questions. Rather you say 'send the unit back'. Do they understand the problem or not? Sending it back is not as simple as it sounds. It means I have to go find the box and the receipt etc, package it go to the post office, wait for it to come back all the time hoping it doesn't get lost or stolen etc etc. I need my Navman, I use it everyday. Does this mean I have to send it back everytime it needs an update?
Come on mate, lets get the problem sorted. Firstly congrats to sydney on getting your MY60t going. But My75T doesn't get a subscrption key or feature unlock key so it does not apply (bugger). Ok, carried out remote desktop with navman support. The fault is as i thought, in the subscription not being recognised correctly during synch. The MY75T was initially released in 2010, and the subscription is linked to the unit's id number ( can be found by going into settings, go to bottom and click help, then, click about) that 35 digit key is what the synch looks at to decide what map updates are allowed.
Initially we thought my unit may have been old stock, and already 2 years old. ( for the newbies reading this i only purchased 8 months ago) but my mapcore date is 2011/09/06 so that was ruled out.
- we tried new map folders etc, no joy, - my idea of blowing the cobwebs off my limited java programming and fooling around with the maps high file would be pointless as synch doesn't look there. - same for changing windows time and date. - you cannot manually d/l maps from the navman site as they WILL be locked, and as i mentioned above the My75T does not support the subscription key feature of navdesk. ( why they are there to download beats me!) Unfortunately the only fix is return to Navman where they can (we hope) update the unit. Initially we thought my unit may have been old stock, and already 2 years old.( for the newbies reading this i only purchased 8 months ago) but my mapcore date is 2011/09/06 so that was ruled out. I think the subscription interval is based on the 'first use' date of the device. The latest map guarantee is at least, going by the fine print.
On my now-ancient MY500XT, there's a file called device.xml in the root of the drive when you plug it in. This has an element called 'firstuse' that looks to be about right for my case.
From some quick googling, it looks like the MY75 was. If someone got your device as soon as they came out, used it, returned it, and then it ended up being sold to you without the first use date being reset, then hypothetically it would show up as being ineligible for this map release. Really stretching things, I admit:). I think the subscription interval is based on the 'first use' date of the device. The latest map guarantee is at least, going by the fine print.

Nice try but not correct although you could be close, ie it could be some sort of date format issue mentioned previously. My 'first use' date is '01:48:08 ' which is spot on.
Hi All I have just been through 3 hours of fun and games trying to load this latest update to MY75T. No Sucess and have tried everything on the forum.
Am now also dissappointed as I think that I have only ever had 2 sucessful updates to this unit. NAVMAN SUPPORT I cant belive the only answer to this fault is to send the units back in. Yes I have tried all the options discussed like chnaging folders. Even manually downloaded the latest file but it is locked and need to enter a key. The only update I get is 'MapData_NTAU1_v1105_5007' so I dont know how far behind I am.
Is there not a better answer then send unit back hully. NAVMAN SUPPORT I cant belive the only answer to this fault is to send the units back in. The only update I get is 'MapData_NTAU1_v1105_5007' so I dont know how far behind I am. Welcome to the forum Hully I'm thinking they're going to be getting a lot of MY75Ts sent back if that is the only answer.
I would like to know if anyone has successfully updated their unit! I've wasted about 16hours trying to get it working and just spent all day trying to find my proof of purchase but cant find it! It is in the filing system somewhere! All I have to offer for proof of purchase at the moment is my credit card statement. I hope that will be good enough.
Not sure why they need it anyway, because by their own admission, none of the MY75Ts are 2 years old yet. They could be just trying to get someone to send their unit back so they can figure out what the problem is, but nobody is willing to send theirs back. This map version was released in October 2011. Which makes it about 3 versions back, from my understanding. Since v1105 there has been, v1110, v1112, and now v1203. There must be hundreds out there who have no idea about this because: a) it is obviously happening to everyone b) Navman dont publish which release of maps is which unless you specifically ask them, and even then you might not get an answer c) instead of directing people to check their map versions in the My Maps section of the MY75T, they get you to check the mapshigh.xml file's modified date. They have obviously been hiding this problem for some time.
Very frustrating Mr Navman. Ok Thanks Navman Support for your patience, politeness and sending me a product key so I can finally have my MY75T GPS up to date for the first time. Although, I have a couple of issues that I have already mentioned that I would like a response to: 1/ I feel annoyed and frustrated, that my Navman (which I only purchased because it came with 2 years include map updates) has never been up to date and has always been auto downloading older maps than the latest version.
I have always been about 1 year behind which I thought must have been normal, until now when it stopped downloading updates altogether. It wasnt until I did some searching on forums like this one that I discovered it was actually a problem and I wasnt the only one experiencing it. How long have you known about this?
And how long did you think you would get away with hiding it from the Navman owners? 2/ I feel that you must have been aware of some sort of issue for some time because your FAQ on how can I tell if my maps have updated says check the mapshigh.xml file and see if the date has changed. At one point I emailed Navman support and asked why cant I just check the Maps version in MyMaps on the MY75T and was told, the mapshigh.xml was the best way. Clearly I was being misled because this information in MyMaps DOES show the current maps version. Surely you would direct people to check it there like eg. On your MY75T device, select Menu, Settings, My Maps and ensure that the Core Mapping is: NAVTEC 2012Q1 and the Safety Cameras are: NAVTEQ 2012.07 and if it is, then your maps are the latest version! From my own experiences, it doesnt matter what version of maps you load, the Mapshigh.xml file will always show the date you loaded the maps.
Why do you tell people check that file when it is not the best way to check that you have the latest available Maps installed? 3/ The map iso files that are auto updated / downloaded or otherwise are ambiguously labeled so that nobody except those in the know which version or release they are. Ie instead of calling them v1203_5003 why are they not called Winter_2012Q1 etc. Why are the files/updates that download not clearly defined so that people can see what they are? If they were then people would also be clearer on what file they are updating to. By calling them these ambiguous names that you use, when people start NavDesk and it prompts them that a new update is available, they have no idea if it is the lastest or not.
During my experience with the current issue, I decided to plug my Navman into my old computer to see what would happen and it told me there was a new update available which turned out to be 2010 MAPS! 4/ I am a techo guy who has worked in Electronics, IT, Telecoms, and for GPS Tracking companies before and I find this whole auto update process very confusing.
How the heck is someone with no technical background going to understand what is going on. Most people will just plug their Navman in and watch it update and BELIEVE that they have the latest maps because it said so, and if they check using the preferred method explained by your customer support dept. They will also believe they have the latest maps when in actual fact they could be using maps from as old as 2010. Why do you make the process so confusing? 5/ And lastly I would like to know the Map update frequency, ie how often should we expect to receive map updates? Is it Quarterly, Half Yearly, whenever you feel like it? I think you have a duty to commit to frequent Map updates and post a list of what the updates are.
Ie what roads have been added, changed or removed. Navman, you owe it to you customers, (the people who have forked out a lot of money thinking they are buying the best GPS on the market), to come clean on this and explain yourself. Hi Warren, I'm glad that we were able to help you out and to everybody who has experienced this issue, our product development team have been alerted to it and are investigating it. I can assure you that we were not aware of this problem previously and all of your feedback and details you have provided us has been invaluable in helping us investigate the matter.
So thank you all for your time and we apologise for any inconvenience you may have experienced. In relation to the mapshigh file, I will forward your feedback to our customer support team to take under advisement in the future.
In relation to the naming conventions of the map files, I appreciate your point, but unfortunately these names are necessary for categorisation by our mapping provider. I understand your concern though and I will forward on your suggestions to our promotions team to look at making this clearer for customers when alerting them to future map udpates. In relation to the auto-prompt suggesting older maps for customers, we believe this to be isolated to a few cases and as mentioned, this bug is being looked into by our product team. In relation to the frequency of map updates, we release up to 4 map updates per year, generally on a quarterly basis.
If you are registered to either our general database or our 3 year map database, you will be notified everytime a new update is available. We will also mention it on our Facebook page: In relation to your point about posting map update information, I will forward your suggestion to our product team for consideration. We are constantly working to improve on our map update experience and wish to make it as easy for customers as possible.
Your feedback during this process is very valuable, so thanks for taking the time to write your points to us Warren. Kind Regards, Navman Support. Gonna go hastle Repco tormorrow and see if they can dig up a copy.
Yes I did that too. Got Harvey Norman to do a reprint for me. But in the end I didnt need it. I still have 16 months of warranty, that would mean i will have to send my unit back another 6 times. I'm hoping once they get one of the 'faulty' units back they can sort the problem out in the software and we'll get a new version of NavDesk that solves the issue.
For all we know it could be a firmware bug that was fixed and we didnt get it because our units didnt detect the update??? Found my reciept last night and posted off this morning. I'm hoping once they get one of the 'faulty' units back they can sort the problem out in the software and we'll get a new version of NavDesk that solves the issue. Hopefully between mine and Drecon's units, the problem can be rectified, If not easiest thing would be to include a key when you receive the 'new map available' email, and add a couple of steps to the installation instructions: 1) run navdesk, and if no update pops up click here ( direct to webpage download of map) 2) once map is downloaded and installed, insert product key. 3) to confirm map has installed right click on maps high file and open with windows notepad and check ( i think ) it was line 5. PS Thanks Mr Support for putting me onto Elvis from your support team he was excellent!
And my gravestone will read 'Here lies Warren, who died from a heart attack while trying to get his maps working properly on his MY75T' LOL Regarding the missing 4WD Icon, this has happened before too. I can find a couple of references to it happening previously when Navman claim that the maps were corrupted during the download process. OK, so I got an email from Navman Support that told me to follow this long drawn out process of re-installing everything from my original Navman CD, formatting the MY75T then update to the latest Maps version (see ).
And my gravestone will read 'Here lies Warren, who died from a heart attack while trying to get his maps working properly on his MY75T' LOL Hence why I thought it best to send it back to Navman and get them to fix it that's why we have a 2 year warranty. However, having said that. OK, I have my MY75T back from Navman reasonable turnaround of 1 week from when I sent it to them tick for that one. The unit came back with a Warranty Delivery Instruction page which noted 'Repair Action: Uboot, ROM, WINCE flashed' not entirely sure what this all means, but I suspect it was a complete re-install of everything from scratch. Turned the unit on and noticed immediately that everything I had in the unit (saved locations, etc) were gone. However, the 4WD icon was back and overall the unit seemed to be doing everything as per usual.
So I thought, 'lets check the mapshigh' file and see what they have done, plugged into my PC without firing up Navdesk and had a look at the file, and yes it appears to be the latest update (created 29/03/12 and modified 29/08/12). All good so far. Next I fired up Navdesk.and am not sure if this was the smartest move. Firstly, the 'Synchronising map data to your PC' window fires up and I think, OK this should not hurt. However, a number of other operations started without any input from me: - In the background came up the map update window showing all of the updates I have saved to my PC, including the lates maps which supposedly have been installed by Navman. Why this would come up without any input for me?
- It then appeared to be installing something to the unit becuase there was another window sitting behind the synch window which seemes to be copying files to the MY75T?? - Then in the midst of all of this comes an 'Error' window 'The operation was not successful because there is not enough space on the destination drive' Oh Sht, I'm thinkng all I did was fire up Navdesk and it has just gone and has screwed up my unit again??! So I clicked 'Finish' on the window sitting behind and then 'Cancel' on the error message and went to the My Maps screen it is showing v12.03 as the map source, so I am hoping that is what is actually on the unit. Next, I went to the Application Gallery to shift the incons around to my preference and guess what? The 4WD icon is missing. Upon exiting Navdesk, disconnecting the unit (safely) and re-booting it the 4WD icon is definitely gone. This is really starting to pis me off.whilst I am pleased to have the latest maps now installed, why it is it a drama to do anything with the unit via Navdesk?
I really don't want to send this back again to Navman. Navman Support why are there no definitive upgrade instructions available and/or trouble-shooting hints which deal with these issues?? Next, I went to the Application Gallery to shift the incons around to my preference and guess what?
The 4WD icon is missing. I just discovered while playing with v1110 maps that if I edit the Application Galley I lose 4WD, Lonely Planet Travel Guides, Lonely Planet Scenic Tours and wcities Travel Book Icons. If you click on 'Reset to Default Settings', they come back! (except the 4WD Icon if I am using 1203 maps.) Give it a try! There are definitely issues with Navdesk. At this point it looks like I might be sending my unit back after all.:-(. If you click on 'Reset to Default Settings', they come back!
(except the 4WD Icon if I am using 1203 maps.) Thanks for this hint Warren.strangest thing.the unit has the 1203 maps now installed, but I tried it anyway. In Navdesk when I hit 'Reset to Deafult Settings' it did not bring back the 4WD icon and in fact I noticed that both Lonely Planet icons were missing also (something I hadn't picked up before). So I elected not to 'Save these settings to the device' and simply closed out of Navman and guess what?? Fired up the MY75T and the 4WD and and Lonely Planet icons were all there.go figure.
I have had enough of playing with this for now and will put it back in the car and await the day when Navman announces another map update.and no doubt it will have the same problems all over again.unless Navman gets its' act together and fixes these issues once and for all. Someone should write a 'Hints Trouble-Shooting Guide for Navman GPS Units'.it would become a technical best-seller.
Thanks for your patience and for providing us with all this feedback. Our team is currently looking into this missing icon issue and I hope to have an answer for you shortly. Thanks, should I be sending my MY75T back for the fix, or do you want me to hang back and see if you can solve the problem remotely? You are obviously going to be needing to fix a few bugs in NavDesk 7.50 I am happy to wait (but not too long), and help out as a guinea pig / beta tester whatever you want to call it. I shall await a response. Or you can call me, you have my number.
Regards Warren. So, Navman Support Warren, would you recommend going back to Navdesk 7.20 rather than running 7.30 or 7.50 as it would appear to be working somewhat better than the current version??
In my limited experience, I would say each has a different set of issues or dislikes. In 7.20, among other things, it starts downloading updates without prompting so can be dangerous. But this appears to be the only version that can edit the Application Icons successfully. Ie without any icons becoming lost.
As for what it is downloading when it decides to do so, who knows, this is one of the things I was complaining about earlier. 7.30 has the issue with the Application Gallery and also tell me that there is data waiting to be installed on my Navman but I am not game enough to click it and see what happens. 7.50 is similar to 7.30 ie cant successfully edit the Application Gallery and it keeps telling me there is a new map update available to download, ie v1110_5002 which is 3 versions ago. 7.30 may be doing this also. So now that my unit it up to date and working, I'm not touching anything until the next version of NavDesk comes out and/or I hear a good reason to use it, like a new map update or Mr Navman wants me to try something or similar. It would be nice if Navman posted a version.txt or similar so we would know what is supposed to be changed or fixed in each version. They play their cards very close to their chest, probably so we don't learn too much about how it works and therefore pose a security risk to their subscriptions.
From my understanding, the map updates you download have everything in them (ie. All maps and all subscriptions). It depends on what subscriptions you have enabled to determine what gets installed on your device from the iso file. I used to be one of the senior Engineers in an Australian GPS Fleet Tracking company who developed their own software and hardware in house, so I know a fair bit about what goes on behind the scenes. The problem that arises when you have Software that is supposed to be 'one software for many different units', is that when you add a new hardware unit and you haven't thoroughly tested the software on ALL previous hardware it is supposed to support, then you get bitten by an older product that doesn't behave as it should anymore. Sound familiar? They play their cards very close to their chest, probably so we don't learn too much about how it works and therefore pose a security risk to their subscriptions.
From my understanding, the map updates you download have everything in them (ie. All maps and all subscriptions). It depends on what subscriptions you have enabled to determine what gets installed on your device from the iso file. That is 100 correct. It all depends on what product key you enter as to what is installed. ( eg my trial version of nero that came with pc.
With a little googling it suddenly became nero premium haha ) It is amazing that when this map update saga first started happening 2 maps ago, and on the 10 or so support emails between myself and the support tech named 'gardener' i asked about the possibility of a new product key and was told it was not applicable to the MY75T. More likley the risk i would share it maybe. Warren drekons it is great to hear your units are all good. At least until the next map. Warren drekons it is great to hear your units are all good. I have just received a new MY350LMT for my wife's car. I've been road testing it for her these past couple of days and so far I'm very happy with it.
I like that you can put it to sleep, then it automatically comes back on when I get back in the car. One thing I would like to be able to do though (and the MY75T has the same issue) is increase the range on some of the Safety Alerts. When travelling at high speed, by the time it finishes telling you about a speed camera, you have already gone past it. Likewise Addy.
So far so good, the unit seems to be performing fine and the maps, lane guidance, alerts, icons, etc all seem to be working as they should. I have yet to test it out on any long journeys on unfamiliar routes, but hopefully it will be all OK. What a drama/saga!
I have to say that if and when I look to upgrade my GPS at some stage in the future, I will be doing some research on user blogs and Whirlpool to see what real user experiences have been before blindly paying out money for something which has a 'name' but not necessarily the functionality and ease of use and updating. Looking forward to the next map update.not. However, the 4WD Icon, Lonely Planet Icons and wcities Icon still do not appear in the Application Gallery in Navdesk 7.30 and 7.50. If I move icons around there I then lose those Icons on my Navman. Definately navdesk related, not map related.
Only noticed after installing 7.50, No biggie any more, I traded mine in in a MY350LMT, just need to figure out how my av lead is gonna reach the other side. Thankyou Navman support, warren, drekons, hully, sydney.
For all you help together at least we figured out the update issue! No biggie any more, I traded mine in in a MY350LMT, After some to and froing with Navman Support (refer to page 3 above in this thread where they offered us to trade-in on the new models) and the admission that my Platinum S150 wasn't being updated correctly with maps, I agreed to trade-in my old unit on a new MY300LMT. Took under a week to send off the old unit and receive the new one. Have now had it in the car for a week testing.
The new Navman is great and has all the speed cameras back that I was missing and a much better screen and is more user-friendly. I got to compare the 2D GPS built-in on my Mazda using 12 month old Sensis maps (that they charge $299 to update and don't supply speed camera or school zone info) in the change-over week to the new Navman before I received it; Going across Melbourne to a similar location in Docklands the new Navman saved me at least 10 minutes (on a 40 min trip) by taking a different route that had much less traffic congestion. The 3D map view and lane guidance also helped around the messy city and freeway intersections. I can certainly recommend the new models as a worthwhile upgrade to anyone also considering the trade-in offer. Do you still need to turn the new ones on and off or have they gone back to turning on / off with ignition? The auto turn on is a bit laggy, nowhere near as good at it as my old S80, but once you know how long to press the power button for, and wait for the prompt screen to lock or sleep. Had to giggle at the start-up tutorial pointing to a menu button that doesn't exist!
Hey Phil how is your bluetooth in call volume? Mine is crap compared to 'Karen's ' voice.
Even with the volume at max, i can barely hear person on other end of call, ( using HTC Incredible S ) but only need navigation volume at in comparison. I've been using the My350LMT for a couple of weeks now. I'm very happy with it.
The voice commands work well, I can tell it where I want to go easily and it understands me which is great. Also the premium safety alerts are good which I have never had before. It took me home a new way I hadnt been before, they other day. At first I thought what's it taking me this way for, then I decided to go with it and see what happened. It was a pleasant drive with much less traffic than the way I usually go from where I was.
I have 2 suggestions for future improvements 1st In my job I stop for a while and go again frequently throughout the day. Sometimes moving back and forth. I find I end up unplugging the Navman and turning it off, because it always seems to be on when I come back to the car. Maybe the unit could have an option to Auto Sleep after 5 mins if it hasnt moved 10 metres or more. 2nd the fixed speed camera alerts are only given at 200 metres, I would like the option to be able to get the alert sound, with or without the voice, at 300m, then again at 200m then 100m then 50m.
The reason being if the traffic is moving fast then I find that I am on the camera by the time it finishes telling me, and if it is very slow moving, like bumper to bumper, then it tells me at 200m but by the time I get to the camera I have forgotten about it or been distracted by a phone call. Am I making sense? And otherwise a happy customer. 1st In my job I stop for a while and go again frequently throughout the day. Sometimes moving back and forth. I find I end up unplugging the Navman and turning it off, because it always seems to be on when I come back to the car. Maybe the unit could have an option to Auto Sleep after 5 mins if it hasnt moved 10 metres or more.
So does yours turn off by itself? I have to momentarily press the power button and select sleep or lock to turn mine off, but it will turn itself back on when it senses the power supply. Still seems laggy when i want to switch on manually, your supposed to only have to press for one second. But takes 3 or 4 secs to come on, just at the point where you wonder 'did i press it? ' so you press again and before you know it the lock screen is back on! I too am so far pleased with the unit, although i have started a new thread about the poor bluetooth incall volume.
